Happy World Pride - Part 2: Fail + I'm Going Slightly Mad

A couple nights ago I was really tired when I got home so I took an hour long nap. When I woke up there was this MASSIVE bug of sorts flying around the ceiling. I did what every normal person would do at that point. I pulled my covers over my head and hoped the winged, terror would leave me be. When I eventually emerged the bug was gone. I use the word gone loosely because 95% of the time my bedroom door is shut. So there was a large chance that he(or she) was still in my room. But at the same time this was 2 days ago and I have yet to see her(or him) again. This seemed weird because it was huge! So part of me now thinks that maybe I was seeing things. You know that moment right when you wake up and you aren't really all there? Maybe in that moment my head was making things up? I feel like I'm going a little batty...

Now moving along to the fail!

This manicure was inspired originally by this manicure by Finger Polish Mania. And of course the colours I used were inspired by pride. I am not a fan of mine personally. First of all some of the colours I didn't have the right shade in polish, so I had to use paint. When it comes to using tape paint has a tendency to seep. Lucky for me once it dried I was able to scrape some of the paint off my nail to make the lines appear more clear. My second issue was the red polish (H&M Cherry). Now before I put on top coat my nails were drying for a good few minutes. The minute I put on TC the red would streak. Every. Single. Time. And it was just the red polish! And then other colours started to get messed up because I was fiddling with it. Overall this manicure frustrated me.

Heart on my thumb. I did really like how this turned out!

HAPPY WORLD PRIDE!!! ENJOY MY LEOPARD GOODNESS!!!

So I meant to post this a WEEK ago, but today is the first day that I have some free time in a while. I'll tell you more about that later. Anyways I'm 95% sure my laptop is on it's way out for good. As some of you may remember my laptop pooped out on me a bit over a year ago. They eventually wiped the whole thing clean :/. Luckily for me this time round I have everything important(and some not so important stuff) on an external hard drive :).  There will be no tears this time around!

So I did this the day before the opening ceremony for World Pride! I've actually tried to do leopard print before, but I got maybe one nail in and it was a disaster. So I have pretty much stayed away from it since then, even though it was something I wanted to do. Finally last week I decided to give it another go. In honour of world pride I decided to do it in rainbow print. I was originally going to do it so it looked like an actual rainbow but then I decided against it. Baby steps.

I sort of like how they turned out(let's be real though, I'm probably being hard on myself). I'm not a fan of how the fingers are really inconsistent. I wish they the spots were more unison. But all in all it turned out ok and I left it on for a few days!

What do you think of my first-ish attempt of leopard print nails?

Fashion! Put it all on me! (This is ALMOST a Lady Gaga Post!)

So it's currently almost 3:30am. I was about to finally go to sleep like an hour ago, but then I remembered I had to submit something and upload some photos to Google Drive. I'm currently watching the photos upload.  It has taken 10 minutes to upload 4 photos...20 more to go. I'll probably go to sleep when at least 50% has been uploaded. My laptop is super poopy so I want to make sure I get at least half up. Actually I'm going to sleep now. It's all in the hands of the internet Gods/Godesses now. This post will have to wait.

2 DAYS LATER

So fashion is probably one of my favourite things to get inspiration from. Especially when it comes to runway stuff. You have all the "normal" Ready To Wear lines and then you have those Haute Couture lines where everyone is wearing a garbage bag made out of glitter. While some of it may not be practical, from an art point of view it can be amazing! Today I have something that was sitting on my computer in my inspiration bin literally for years! This outfit was part of Gucci's 2012, spring, ready to wear line. For this I used Sinful Colors Hey, You!, a no name Gold Dior(it was part of a set and not intended to be sold individually which is why I think it has no name), and I don't remember which of my blacks I used.

Ps. Sorry these photos are kind of sketch looking :/ Please forgive me and accept this Lady Gaga Song as a piece offering.

Watercolour Fun! (I also got an owie)

So this past little while I've been very busy. Generally I read blogs now on the go. The one thing that sucks about that is I can't actually comment when I'm using my phone. Is that just a thing? Or is my phone silly? Anyway's not to fear I still read all your blogs, I just can't tell you how amazing you guys all are :D

This week I took a tumble. I was lifting a generator with another person and I tripped. One of my knees looks frightening now. I'll spare you the details but it's gross. When I feel 2 things went through my head 1)I'm glad these aren't my nice jeans and 2)I'm glad my nails didn't break. Priorities.

So the nails I'll be showing you today I did a few weeks ago. It's my first water colour nails! I used this tutorial by Melissa Rose. I started out with a white base, then I covered it with a matte topcoat. From there I mixed a bit of water with a bit of acrylic paint, and then gently blotted and brushed it onto my nails. One important thing is that you wait for each colour to dry(which can be a pain in the bum). The drying time was a lot less when I used less water. But also know that if you use less water your colours will be more pigmented. Which was good for me because I wanted the look to be a bit bolder. But if you want a softer look you'll need more water in your paint, and a bit more drying time. When finished I applied a layer of topcoat!

I was really pleased with how this turned out. So pleased that I'm going to show you my RIGHT HAND!!!

Cher! (Probably not the one you are thinking of)

So this week has kind of been a bit up and down for me. I wont get into it because feelings are gross. They should be suppressed until you one day end up loosing your shit and running down the street, naked, and covered in jelly, while blasting Queen through an old skool boom box, laughing and weeping all at once.

One good thing that happened this week was Cher Lloyd came out with her new album! Now if you don't know who she is SHAME. She is my fun time jam music. I will admit she isn't for everyone but I can't get enough of her! She started off on The X Factor UK. When she started I can't say I liked her style(especially her eyebrows, they were downright frightening at the time. Think 2 emaciated caterpillars), but now for the most part I kind of love it(eyebrows included). This manicure is based off an outfit she wore in a photoshoot.

I used Ruby Kisses Blue My Mind, Some white Wet n Wild polish and Zoya Dahlia and striping tape. I loved this manicure, but for the first time ever after about a day I started to pick on the textured polish. I don't normally do that, but I really felt the need to this time.

Sinful Colours: Zeus - Thank You!

I just want to say THANK YOU ALL for your comments on my last post. I originally didn't know if I should post it, because it was an in the heat of the moment kind of thing. But I'm glad I did and I'm glad it got such a positive response! Thanks Again!

This post is gonna be quick! Today I have Sinful Colors Zeus! I was really happy to get my hands on this Aka George gave it to me as I couldn't find it. This is a beautiful periwinkle with pink shimmer. I love this because the shimmer isn't obvious, but it isn't totally hidden. This is a nice safer colour with a bit of flair :P For this mani I needed 3 coats for total coverage.

Do you like colours with shimmer that is on the subtle side?

Dear (some of the) Nail Art Community, I see you and your selective hate.

Now I'm sure if you've been hanging around the nail community for a while you remember that whole hoopla about bullying other people about things like not cleaning up. Everyone and their dog made a huge deal out of it. Now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but one thing I have noticed increasingly amongst people in the nail community is:

Being a bully is bad, if you don't like something don't look or comment. UNLESS the majority of us don't like what we see. In that case feel free to make whatever comment you like, because it is no longer bullying, it is a personal opinion.

Honestly a nail newbie could show how they did a simple flower dotticure for the first time, and their application could be horrific. If one person even dares question the application they are suddenly thrown out to the dogs. Another person could post their intricately done duck feet nails and 90% of the comments would simply be "Ew that's gross".

BOTH these people worked hard, and chances are BOTH these people were proud of their work. Enough so to share it with other people. So why is it ok to put down one?

I get that everyone has a say on things. You are not obligated to like everything you see, but know that just because it is not something the majority of people are into doesn't mean there's not someone out there who likes it a lot. If you don't like something, great. It's easy to not say "Ew," or "That's really ugly." And honestly if you feel the need to comment something as simple as "This isn't something I would do, but you did a great job/it's very creative" goes so much farther. You get out the point that it's not your thing, AND at the same time you show that you are respectful. Depending on the manicure even saying something like "That's insane!" goes a lot farther than "Ummmm no."

Art as a whole is subjective. Like what you like and don't like what you don't like, but do not make others feel bad because what they like is not what you like. Nail art can be pretty, it can be ugly, it can be sparkly, it can be dull, it can be plain, it can be detailed, it can be practical, or impractical. There is no right or wrong box. Nail art is an expression of someone's creativity. When no one is getting hurt I think stifling someone's creativity is one of the worst things you can do.
