Worst Collector Ever

So I have been collecting polish for almost three years now. I don't have a huge collection(by nail folk standards), but I do have way more than any other normal person. When I buy polish I am a bit picky about what I get. I could care less that x polish is super popular, if I don't absolutely love it I just can't buy it. I am a selective collector! Well I FINALLY decided that I needed to add a proper yellow and orange to my collection. Yes, you herd me correctly. In all my years of collection polish I have never actually bought a yellow or orange polish! I currently own two yellows(One was sent for review and is pretty much done, and the second I bought in a four pack because I wanted two of the other colours) and three oranges(Two were gifts and one was part of the four pack I just mentioned). So I decided what better time to loose my orange/yellow virginity. Because you are never too old(NO MATTER WHAT SOCIETY SAYS!)

First up I have Sinful Colors Pull Over, originally from their 2011 spring Tropical Ecstasy, but seen more recently in their Boldacious Collection. This is a taxi cab yellow. The formula was a bit runny, and this took me three coats. It's not the best formula, but it is ok. And because I mainly just want this in case I ever need a base for art I am ok with that.

Next up I have China Glaze Stoked to be Soaked, from their 2014 Stoked to be Soaked summer collection. When I picked this polish up the store I originally found it in was selling it for 20% off. Since I wasn't looking for a specific orange I decided I would wait to see if I found something cheaper. I then decided to check out a beauty supply store and just rummage through their sale bin. Lo and behold, what was looking right up at me with its toxic fume eyes, but this little guy. Not only that but it was 70% off! WEEEEEE! SALES!

F4 - Hocus Pocus: Well worth the wait.

Well Halloween has come and gone.  And I'll be honest with you guys the one thing I will be missing will be the horror movies that are always on the television.  I love a good(or hilariously bad) horror film.

This polish that I wore today was part of F4's Halloween line last year.  I didn't wear it last year so I decided that this year I was going to wear it on Halloween for the first time.  I wanted my first time to to be special guys.  So I have been sitting on this polish for over a year and that day has finally come.  Let me tell you it was well worth the wait(OMG she used the title of the post in the post...like in movies).

I decided to go with the obnoxious look.  My base was a bright orange by Orly(I could not find the name on the mini bottle), and I used one coat of Hocus Pocus over it.  Hocus Pocus is tiny matte black glitter and pink glitter, as well as larger pieces of green and yellow glitter.  Formula was super easy to use and you could probably get this to be opaque on its own in 3 coats or so.

So do I do Christmas stuff now?

Pumpkin Half Moons! - I hate pumpkins!

Soooooooooooooo I actually did these nails over two weeks ago and started this post maybe 10 days ago.  I ended up pushing the post back and finishing it now.

Let's start with some hard hitting truths.  I actually don't like pumpkin.  I've had one pumpkin soup that I've liked and that was it.   Actually had a pumpkin spice latte the other day.  I was in the mood for a fall drink, which generally means something apple.  But since the place I was at didn't have any apple goodness I decided to try the latte.  Wow.  The only way I can describe the flavour was a cross between horrid kids medicine, and vomit aftertaste.   No, it tasted like I had thrown up horrid kids medicine.  Ill stick to my apple cider next time.

UNLESS I don't have to ingest it.  I think that is why I ended up loving these nails.  They were super easy to do as I didn't have to be exact with them *HUZZAH*.  For my base I used China Glaze Glittering Garland, and for the pumpkins I just used acrylic paint.

Again I was super pleased with these.  What do you think?  Also does anyone have a pumpkin recipe that can convert this pumpkin hater?

LynBDesigns - Pumpkin King: This post is brought to you by a bad internet connection and computer rabies.

So this post was originally supposed to go up at noon today BUT my internet has been kind of poopy lately.  So I attempted to post it in a coffee shop today but it was telling me the only internet connection available could give my computers rabies.  Ok it didn't say that, but it said it wasn't safe, so I didn't risk it.  That and I felt miserable in the coffee place.  I sat next to a door and then I bought a frozen lemonade. I know, lemonade in a coffee shop!  I was freezing my tushy off!

Frozen bum aside let's talk polish! Pumpkin King is the final polish I have from LynBDesigns The Nightmare Begins collection. It's based on Jack Skellington who is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town(Think of him as their Santa). It’s exactly what you would think when you think of Pumpkin King. I would also say it is the only polish in the whole collection that really does lean towards Halloween. It’s small orange glitter as well as medium size hex glitter as well as silver hex glitter, then it also has black bar, diamond and star glitter. I ended up layering 2 coats over OPI’s My Boyfriend Scales Walls. It was very easy to apply(although you may have to fiddle with glitter placement now and then) and I wore this for 2 days. On the second day I added black tips. They were a bit chunky but it wasn't all that noticeable in real life. I sadly had to take it off a few hours after I put the tips on. I don't know what I did exactly but I ended up chipping and breaking some nails on the hand I don't photograph.

Lava Nails: This is the reason I have a bottle of textured polish. That and SCIENCE!

Fact:  I own one bottle of textured polish at the moment.  Zoya Dahlia.  One of the main reason why I bought it was to try this.  I think I would call this a success!

I started off by leaving on the base of Moonlit Dance.  Then with black acrylic paint I messily painted on where the black was going to go.  After that I painted on Dahlia over the black paint using a nail art brush, and adding a tiny bit of black on top of the orange.  This looked much cooler in real life as in some of the black areas I went over them maybe twice.  Then in other areas I went over them around six times.  Not only did I have textures going on because I did more layers in some places more than others it gave it this really neat 3D look!  After I did that I decided to go over the orange with a sheer orange Orly polish(I don't remember the name right now and I can't find it on the bottle(mini)).  I wasn't really loving how shimmery the original orange looked under it.

Fact: Lava- Molten rock above the earths surface, expelled by volcano.  Magma- Molten rock below the earths surface!

Ummmmm...SCIENCE!

Sally Hansen Moonlit Dance: C'est L'Halloween!

Before I get started I thought I would share a Halloween tale.  Years ago starting from when I was around 6 to around 8 I remember in school, they would play this Halloween song for us that we would sing along to.  Over the years I have managed to forget all the lyrics.  Except for the chorus.  "C'est L'Halloween.  C'est L'Halloween.  Heh!  C'est L'Halloween.  C'est L'Halloween."  For a while I actually thought I was making this song up because that's all I could remember. Then I looked it up one of the first things that popped up was a Youtube lyrics video.  I don't think you understand how happy I was to find it.  I put it at the end of the post and I think everyone should check it out!

So this is the first polish this month that I wore in honor of the sacred holiday of Halloween.  It's like Christmas, but for Satan!  Nothing fancy, but it is orange.  A colour I normally don't wear, unless it's Halloween.

Moonlit Dance is actually an orange and gold shimmer.  Depending on how the light is hitting it you'll see more or less of the gold.  My only problem with this was that it needed 4 coats.  Not only that but drying time was blah.  I can forgive that though.  Because of the ultra shimmery finish, you never really notice any nicks.  I wasn't too fond of this colour at first, but the more I wore it the more I started falling for it.

Femme Fatale Tricky Treats: So THIS is glitter.

Of course I know what glitter is.  But up until now glitter to me was lots of circular shiny stuff, or hexagons.  Or sometimes it got really crazy and it was bar glitter, hexagons AND it was black and white.  INTENSE!  That was until I encountered Femme Fatale.  It is clear that up until now I had no idea what glitter really was.

Femme Fatale is an indie brand bases in Brisbane, Australia.  Not only do they make and sell their own cosmetics they also sell other international brands as well as well as national brands!

The first polish I have for you guys is Tricky Treats!  It's a glitter in an orange tinted base.  It contains bar glitter both in orange and holographic gold,  medium orange hex glitter, tiny orange glitter, small purple and red square glitter, tiny pink glitter and finally I don't know how many are in here but I found a single orange heart.   It's a true mélange of shapes and sizes.  And for something that is so jammed packed with glitter I was super pleased with the formula.  I only used one coat over NYC 120A, a purple shimmer(It's old so it has a number rather than a name).  And it applied easier than a lot of more tame glitters I own.  Also a bonus is that it is 3-free!

All in all I really like this and can't wait to wear it around Halloween.  I want to layer it over a squishy purple.  In general I'm not a huge glitter person, but I've slowly found myself liking them more and more!  I'm excited to show you the others I have!

Nail Night!: Are you giving me hamburger nails?

So Robyn and I decided to have a nail night the other night.  The plan was simple.  Have a few drinks and do each others nails, but the other person had no clue what they were going to get.  But long story short, Robyn gave me pretty orange, black and gold nails and I gave her burger nails.

With real sesame seeds.

What did you expect from me?  Normal?

Robyn's manicure she did for me was an orange skittle design.  I personally don't do many skittle because for some reason coming up with ideas for more than two nails that are different is difficult for me. I loved the orange she used.  I can't think of the name right now but it's from a recent OPI collection.  The black studs did bleed a bit I should add.  But to my surprise the black striping tape did not!  I Don't know where she bought it but it held up well!

Note from Robyn: The orange is OPI A Roll In The Hague, stamped/striped with Maybelline Color Show Bold Gold, and the glitter is Milani 531 Gold. Striping tape from Born Pretty Store.The studs are from this fun little package that I got for my birthday!

These are burger nails.  I did them for Robyn.  They are majestic.  I used OPI's Over the Taupe, acrylic paint and sesame seeds.  I had to buy a bagel bun and scrape them off.  I treated the seeds like I would nail studs.  Then I finished with top coat so they didn't fall off/get wet.

Note from Robyn: I just finished watching Metalocalypse and all I could think was HAMBURGER TIME.

Literary Lacquers Marilla's Amethyst Brooch: Any excuse to whip out my googly eyed amethyst

Blah, I'm getting sick :(.  My throat is raw and overall I just feel really yucky.  And to top it all off I'm cold.  Poop.  My problems aside lets move on to another one of Literary Lacquers polishes from the new Anne of Green Gables collection.

Today I have Marilla's Amethyst Brooch.  Now the name of the polish gives two things away. 1)It was a brooch that belonged to Marilla, the lady who along with her brother adopted Anne.  It was a favourite of hers.  2) The colour of the polish is Amethyst.  Well if you really want to get specific Literary Lacquers describes it as Amethyst shimmer with a pink to orange color-shifting flash.  I only needed 2 coats for full opacity but you may need 3 depending on how thick or thin your coats are.  While getting the orange shimmer to show may be a bit trickier the pink is very evident.  This polish kind of reminds me of Essence Color & Go Oh My Glitter.  This polish is like Oh My Glitter's complex, mature sister.  Overall this is a colour I really like.  It's glowy, fun, not afraid to show it, and at the same time is not obnoxious.

And just so you know he last 2 photos are with my chunk of raw amethyst.  And yes, the amethyst has googly eyes.  Because what 16 year old doesn't want a rock with googly eyes for her birthday!  I think it makes the rock even more beautiful.

Literary Lacquers Carrots Carrots and Lake of Shining Waters: Warning! Very Canadian Post!

One of my earliest memories is actually Anne of Green Gables related!  My mum took me to see Anne of Green Gables The Musical when I was 5 and after the show I told I thought Gilbert was very attractive.  She then waited until the guy who played him came out and told him I found him attractive.  This is why I don't talk to her about men anymore.  Seriously.

So back to the polish! This Literary Lacquers collection based off of Anne of Green Gables(but if you have been reading this post you already knew that).  Written by Lucy Maud Montgomery it is about the adventures of  Anne Shirley a young orphan girl mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who have a farm on Prince Edward Island and who had intended to adopt a boy to help them. There's actually five sequels following the first book written by Ms Montgomery they follow Anne from childhood(Aged 11) till adulthood(aged 40).

First I have Lake of Shining Waters.  This is what Anne decided to call Berry's Lake when she refused to call it that.  Lake of Shining Waters is a teal linear holo.  Like all of the holos from Literary Lacquers application was flawless in 2 coats, and it dried super fast.  Sorry about the lack of sun photos the sun wont be out for a couple days but I still wanted to show at least one of the holos(Yes there's more that I'll hopefully be able to show you with some sun).  But even though you can only see a tiny bit of holo it is very clear that even when the holo isn't out in full force the colour itself stands on its own.

Next up is Carrots Carrots.  Carrots is what Gilbert Blythe, a classmate(who goes on to be much more) call's her to get her attention.  I should add she has red hair just so you don't think he's some boy that calls people vegetables.  The polish is a creamy orange base and it's full of medium white matte glitter, and small, medium and large carrot coloured glitter.  I used 3 easy coats for full opacity.  And despite the 3 coats the glitter was never drowned out.  The layers gave the polish depth.  While I like the colour I'm not sure it works great in my skin(I have a complicated relationship with orange).  BUT for those of you who can rock this colour this glitter in a soft base look is very on trend.

Dayum! These nails are hott!

The minute I chose BK Sweet Candy Fast Dry Nail Art Polish in #19 I knew I wanted to do badass sun nails.  Despite my general hatred for all things space related I still thought this was a great idea.

I already had on the yellow BK polish from yesterday.  So I added to that by using the saran wrap method and splotching on Orly Holla.  Then I painted in the black with acrylic paint and finished up with more Holla to give it that pretty glow-y, solar flair-y look.

So tell me.  Are you glad or what you'll be long dead by the time our sun turns into a red giant and annihilates the earth?

Why wont you photograph Chunky Holo Fuchsia?

So this is the first of the 6 polish I have from the Kleancolor Chunky Holo collection.  I could not get this to photograph the way I wanted to.  Not in my lightbox, not in the sun, not in the shade and not underwater.  But I still got a few decent shots.

Out of all the colours this was also the hardest to pair for some reason.  I had nothing I wanted to pair it with.  But then I remember seeing a swatch on The PolishAholic that used Revlon Royal as a base and this. So I decided to give it a go.  For the base I used Ruby Kissed Blue My Mind. Then 2 coats of the Kleancolor.

Fuchsia is well a translucent fuchsia polish filled with iridescent glitter a la Nubar 2012.  In most lights this looks like embers.  It's really near because it's sparkly but not too much so.  Then when you take it out into the sun that's when she really shines and you see all the colours of her rainbow!  Well mostly red, orange and green.  She's a very limited rainbow.  But pretty still :)

 

I would say this is pretty much what it looks like most of the time in real life and with indoor lighting.  Less green though.

Jessica: Glitterati - I don't know! It's weird!

Glitterati is from Jessica's 2012 Holiday Glamourama collection.  Now this is a very strange glitter imo.  I like it but I'm not sure it screams Holiday for one.  Also it's just weird.   When you look at it in the bottle it looks brown or orange, with tiny bits of blue glitter.  Then on an angle there's a colour shift to green.  It's kind of like the glitter version of Nubar 2010...But it's not.  I feel like you wont understand unless you own it, or you came over and looked at my hands(don't).  I used two coats and it was a bit on the thick side.  But thinner will fix that!  And finally as you can see I layered this over black.  On it's own it looks horrible.  Just dreadful.

All in ll though I really like it.  For a glitter it isn't too in your face and yet it is still very noticeable!

It reminds me of fallen leaves, that then turned radioactive.  You know what I mean right?
