Orly Dayglow and Melt Your Popsicle

So for those who, like me, are looking forward to adorning their nails with some crazazy neons this summer, this is another post for you!

I have for you today two more of Orly's Feel The Vibe polishes, Dayglow and Melt Your Popsicle.  Dayglow is a white shade with a very, very, very slight blue flash.  It's an EXCELLENT base for neons, so if you're in the market for a good white, make it this one!  For this swatch I used two very thin coats.  As you can see it's not entirely opaque, but I think two normal coats or three thin ones would do the trick nicely if you were looking to wear it alone.

Next up is Melt Your Popsicle(Katy Perry, anyone?), which is an electric orange shade.  Now, I also have Essie Bright Tights, but this is in a whole other world.  I took over 80 photos of this baby, and only about 10 looked anything close to normal.  The flash does something to this one, it makes it look like orange juice!  Here are a few of the best shots I could get.   Orly clearly meant business with these neons!

This is the closest to colour accuracy I could get, and this is still a VERY muted version of the real shade.

I tried to get some fun motion shots with my hoop, but this is my favourite one.  I love it!

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard!!!

Well here it is folks. Tah-dah!

This was pretty much impossible to capture how it looked in person.  So most of these shots are underwater.

Just Spotted The Lizard is a gold/green duochrome shimmer (But you probably already knew that).  Application was good and I used 2 coats for this. The only real negative is in person it's a tad brush stroke-y.

And this post wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention Chanel's Peridot.  Apparently they are very, VERY close.  Pretty much dupes.  So if you really wanted Peridot but didn't want to shell out the cash for it, or you missed it, or you spent the money on it, only to make it part of your nail blog's giveaway.  I would say get this... And wear it underwater for maximum fun.

ETA: I was looking at my hands today in different lighting.  IRL this polish is slightly more intense than the photo above.  And slightly less intense with the underwater pictures. Flash brings the shimmer out.

I only have a bottle shot to compare.  As the Chanel bottle is for our giveaway.  They honestly look the same in the bottle.  The only difference is the OPI looks more duochrome-y due to the shape of the bottle.

Orly Glowstick

This, my friends, is one that needs to be seen to be believed.  Now, I am a fan of neons.  I have many, I am always looking for new ones.  They're perfect for summer and I love how they just make everything a little more fun.  My mother calls them "Georgia's trailer trash nails", but whatevs, we all know how crazy moms can be!  I will always be excited when a brand comes out with more neons!  And since Orly is one of my favourite brands, I was super excited to see some neons in their latest collection.  I have Glowstick for you today, and I will have Melt Your Popsicle another day this week.

Glowstick is BRIGHT.  Photo taking was a NIGHTMARE because the colour just doesn't want to look as bright as it really is.  Also, some of you who follow us on Facebook might have seen how weird the swatch I uploaded looks, well, that's the SAME PICTURE as the last picture here.  Clearly Facebok hates this colour too.  But Orly have outdone themselves with these, because they are the brightest neons I've found.  They are insane, retina-searing neons, and this is the closest to an actual highlighter yellow polish I've seen.  The other thing that you can see here that I LOVE about neons is how damn TAN they make me look.  This is two coats over white.

Orly Lucky Duck: Bubble, bubble toil and trouble...

Maybe it's just me and my bottle but I was unlucky enough to get this bubble fest. *sadness face*

Lucky Duck is a jade cream that is apparently a dupe for OPI's Jade Is the New Black, but I don't own it so I can't say for sure.  I used 3 coats for this. I love the colour but I found the formula to be tricky from the get go.  It was on the goopy side.  And it kept bubbling.  I added thinner but it still bubbled. Boo. Maybe I'll give it another shot and next time I'll add a bit more thinner because its such a pretty colour.

You can't really see the bubbles in the photos because I took them right after the final coat.  The bubbles appeared a few minutes later.

Ps. Ignore my fluctuating nail length. These photos were taken at the beginning of March. Speaking of nail length I think I want my nails a TAD longer.  I know I wanted them short but a couple I cut too short by mistake and they're tricky to file.

Claire's Candy Shop!

So this is decidedly more me!  I'm still rocking the Essie/Nubar combo(5 days strong, what is this magic??) but I wanted to show you a swatch I did before I put that on.

So I finally found Candy Shop at Claires, and I was SO psyched to try it and let me say, it does not disappoint!  I'm sure the Lippmann one is great, but to be frank, I like a brighter pink.  This colour is really beautiful, a really nice pink shade, and the variety of glitter is great.  Even with all the glitter, it applied very easily and I had to do very little placing of glitter.  It distributed evenly and levelled quite nicely, though it's not smooth and needs an extra layer of top coat if smoothness is a priority for you.

This is 2.5 coats(I wouldn't say it's a FULL third coat because for the third I just touched on a little extra glitter on a few spots that needed it).  Great coverage too.

As you can see, while it's levelled nicely, it's not very smooth.  

This is with one coat of Essie Good To Go.

Essie Fiji + Nubar 2010 = Probably the girliest thing I've ever had on my nails!

So I was in a stanky mood the other day(I think Kas and I are mentally connected or something because I find our bad days coincide far too often) and I decided to cheer myself up by doing a nice treatment on my hair and putting some pretty, girly, pink polish on my nails.  I reached into the Untrieds bin and found Essie Fiji, the much discussed pink I had bought but never actually gotten around to putting on.  I put two thin coats of Nubar 2010 on top to add a little punch and voila!

It's a beautiful pink, to be sure, but I don't think it's stealing the title of my favourite light pink away from Pink Friday just yet. The formula leaves a LOT to be desired.  At three coats it still wasn't perfect, but since I was layering I didn't bother with a fourth.  I think I could get away with 3 VERY CAREFUL coats, but 4 would be the norm.  It's also a little thick, but not unmanageable.  It gives me a little bit of lobster hands and unless I was going to high tea, I probably wouldn't reach for it again on a normal day unless I was layering it again.  But, that said, I still like this.  It's a very pretty, simple look.  I'll keep it on until it chips.  Going on three days now!

Seeing Red/Double + My New Nails!!!

So I've had a pretty crappy night that involved being stuck out in the rain and cold so I'm kinda seeing red today.

You're probably seeing double. I know Cult Nails Quench has been posted here before but I decided now that I've worn for a few days I needed to do a quick review too.

It's a glossy red jelly that varies in shade depending on the light.  After 2 coats it looked opaque but you could tell where it was patchy in different light.  So I needed 3 coats for complete coverage.

Here's where my problem is.  It's a beautiful, alluring colour (and I'm glad I own it).  But after a day of wearing it I had tip wear.  Also I got sheet marks... on the SECOND night I was wearing it.  I've worn jellies before and never had this happen.  I also used my normal base and top coat.  So that was a bit disappointing.

Here are also my new nails.  No, I didn't have some accident that required I even them all out.  I just wanted shorter nails.  I think they look cute, especially with the deeper colours I like to wear.  Also a couple of my nails start to grow funny if they get to long and that looks blah!
