A Giveaway Where The Polish Is Custom Made And The Points Don't Matter

And yes, this is a REAL giveaway :P

As you probably remember a few weeks ago I reviewed a bunch of polishes from Literary Lacquers The Good Parts Collection.  And if you were keeping up with that you'll also remember that Literary Lacquers polishes are based on literature(Check out all the polishes here on Etsy).   And as we all know *books + nail polish = awesome (The math doesn't lie).  Long Story short along with the lovely Amy who runs Literary Lacquers we have come up with a pretty awesome giveaway.

In the comments section all yo have to do is tell us about your favourite book(or just one you really like) in a single paragraph.  Then in that same comment describe what your idea of a nail polish inspired by that book or inspired by something in the book would look like (Only needs to be a sentence or two).  When the contest is over we over at Varnished Valkyrie will choose our top entries.  From there Amy will choose the winner, and sh will work with you in creating your own one of a kind polish!

Here are all the rules(PLEASE READ):

1)This is NOT a random draw giveaway.  Rafflecopter is just easy to use.  ALL the questions are mandatory.
2)This is international.  Unless you live somewhere where you know it wont be allowed.  In that case please do not enter.
3)We would rather you be over 18.
4)Don't worry your paragraph's wont be graded, spelling errors will not be penalized and all that jazz. Our favourites will be chosen based on how interesting you make your book sound.
5)Contest Ends May 3rd at Midnight EST.  Winner will be announced by May 6th at the latest.
6)Winner will have 24hrs to respond as usual and we will give you details on what to do next from there.
7)Have fun. <----It feels ominous with a period.
ETA- 8)Amy from Literary Lacquers is currently working on some Anne of Green Gables polish as we speak.  That being said if that series is your favourite please choose another book just to make it fair for you. Thanks!

Also just a note.  Don't expect the polish to be shipped out the next day.  It is custom made :P

Anyways here's the Rafflecopter!  Go Nuts!  Feel free to ask questions!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

*If you actually put nail polish on your books that may not be awesome at all.  Math can be deceptive.

  1. Wow, what a great giveaway! Thank you so much!

My favourite book is 'Tess of the d'Ubervilles'. A story of innocence stolen and the burden of love. Written during a time when reputation was everything and the merest shadow of indiscretion was ruination, it shows no matter how carefully placed your steps, no matter how pure your actions, your entire future can be ripped from you.

As for the polish, I think something that clashes would fit well with the idea of innocence stolen. Maybe something light with darker glitter or a dark holo, showcasing the idea that life seems tainted on the outside, but is fragile and beautiful on the inside. (^_^)

  2. Oh this is one giveaway I'm quite enjoying, you're putting my two favorite things together, books and polish ♥
Anyway, favorite book, I have a favorite trilogy, the All Souls Trilogy. Maybe the first one was my favorite, it did get me hooked in the collection.
A Discovery Of Witches is the first one. It's a love story between a vampire and a witch. In the book witches hate vampires, so imagine how Diana, main character, felt when she felt for a vampire? It's fascinating, and the author is actually a historian, so she puts a lot of old history in it. I bought it about two years ago in this book convention we have here, but took me one year to finally read it, when I did I read it all in one day, and bought the ebook to read it on the iPad, I just couldn't put it away. It's incredible, and the fact that the last one won't be released until next year is making me way too anxious!

And for the polish, a mixture between dark and light, Diana is light, and Matthew is her darkness. She sees the world differently, and it has a LOT of colors, so combining those would sound like fun. So hard to think of something that would work, but something bright and colorful with something dark would be awesome. One completes the other :)

  3. Oops I put my book comment above in the rafflecopter. My favorite book though is Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. It is classified as a historical romance. I call it intriguing and it involves time travel, medicine, history, romance, a hero and a heroine.

  4. whoa, that's really putting two great things together. I'm not sure which book is my favourite, but it's bound to be a Stephen King book. I love the way he describes his characters and make them come to life.
I've chosen Christine as my favourite book of today - a book about a young man who buys what looks like a wreck of a car: Christine. The story is about how it ends up changing his life, because Christine is more than just a car.

My choice of polish would be red, like Christine is. The polish contains a mix of holo and shimmer and will be the sexyest polish ever! ;)

  5. One of my favorite books is Unwind by Neal Shusterman. It is set in a dystopian future, where the Pro-Life and Pro-Choice advocates have finally come to an agreement after the bloody Heartland War. Life must be protected from the moment of conception, and only at the age 13 may the child be "aborted", so long as the child is kept alive in some form. This has become to be known as Unwinding, the process in which every (save for the appendix and other unnecessary parts) organ, tissue, and fluid is harvested and donated to needy recipients. The story follows Connor (an unruly teen whose parents no long want to deal with), Risa (an orphan and ward of the state whom it is decided isn't worth the bed space), and Levi (a religious tithe), as they fight for freedom and find out what it truly means to be alive.
As for the polish I would be inspired by the cover itself, most likely a black jelly with large matte blue hexagons and small shiny red circles.

  6. I have read books all my life - and I cannot no matter how hard I try select one as a favorite - sorry about that.
I could just put one in - but I feel that would not be right.
As for a polish I have a weakness for cool toned pastel colors (bright in like not dusty), and I would love a pastel yellow or mint with a highly visible shimmer or even one of those colors as a holo...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Persepolis - the nail polish would be based off the cover, black base full of different shapes and sizes of cyan and white glitter with tiny holo glitter giving extra sparkle.

  8. my favorite book is The Hiding Place. A dark purple holographic polish with multichrome glitter and opalescent flakies!

  10. This is a tough challenge to come up with my favorite book and one that could inspire a polish. My first instinct (which I will go with) is Jackaroo by Cynthia Voigt. She followed it up with a sequel of sorts (a generation or two behind) that I also love, On Fortune's Wheel. But anyway, Jackaroo (in case you have not read it) is an inspirational novel that takes place in an undefined Middle Ages type placed called the "Kingdom." The central character is a girl, Gwyn, who has been confined by gender (it seems her only option is marriage and the like) and an inability to help the less fortunate (often made less fortunate by the system of classist oppression). She begins to break out of this confinement when she stumbles upon the costume of a legendary figure called "Jackaroo" who is akin to Robin Hood (helps the oppressed with money and the like, rights injustices, all while wearing specific garb and a mask). She begins to mascarade as Jackaroo, helping the people and herself to grow/mature. She eventually gets caught because of Jackaroo's misdeeds, and is sentenced to be hanged. I won't tell you what happens (probably already said too much) in case you have not read it/want to in the future!

Essentially, it boils down to action, intrigue, romance (yes, she does find love, but not as it would have been expected of her- she breaks ALL the rules!), and girl-power! It is technically young adult (rated 12+) but it is very intense (Voight does not go lightly on the descriptions/actions and the punishments etc are very real), and I still enjoy it much later in life, today.

I would make a polish inspired by Jackaroo's costume. I always pictured it from the front of the book I had (for an image of the cover: http://cherstinieveen.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/jackaroo.jpg?w=595). Thus, I would think a green/gold duochrome with a light linear holographic would be perfect!

Hopefully that is doable and that you like my idea! I'm an avid reader, so if you want to talk to me about other ideas, I'd love that too! ;) (Hey, a woman can dream, right?)

  11. I love a simple and famous book. I like "the love story" a lot. I love to read it again and again :) probably till now I have read it more than 20 times! I know that's a lot...but when I start reading it, I just get lost in the story...

The polish I would love with this book will be a crelly (cream + jelly) which has soft pink and gold hex glitters and muter silver shimmer.

  12. First, thanks for this amazing giveaway!!

My favourite book is The Hobbit, and I think it's a book that everyone has read and I can not add anything new about it :)

My favourite nail polish would be purple with a lot of opal flakes ( red, pink, yellow, blue, green and orange ♥ ).

    xx

  13. This is such a great idea for a giveaway :)

My favourite book is a children's book called Guess How Much I Love You. It's lame but I love it because it's so cute. It's about a daddy hare and a baby hare trying to show how much they love each other, and it finishes with 'I love you to the moon.... and back' and it's just so mushy and great.

The nail polish would be inspired by the setting of the book - lots of green grass and trees, which is great because my favourite colour is green! The brighter the better, and not too yellow toned. I love shimmer/glitter and it would be adorable if there could be moon glitter shapes in there to reference the final line of the book.

  14. My Favorite book is Pride and Prejudice, I love the story and the humor in the writing. Sometimes I wish Lizzy was real so I could be her friend :)
Maybe because the book is a "classic" and a passionate story the color could be a red, but a nice deep blue red, with tiny holo glitter in for fun? :)

  15. My favorite book is not a book, but a series - the Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. I think the Wiki has a good description for the genre and tenor of the series: All the novels include humor and comedy, sometimes very black and juxtaposed with tragic deaths or losses. She mixes military adventure, political thriller, romance, and the whodunit in various proportions. The series starts with the romance between Cordelia Naismith and Aral Vorkosigan, who meet as enemy combatants in a war and end up happily married, though most of the series focuses on the life of their oldest son, Miles, who has various physical difficulties which cause him severe personal difficulties in the culture of his home planet, and an obsession to prove himself. He was referred to once in the series as a “manic-depressive little dwarf”, which while accurate, doesn’t do justice to the level of hyperactivity Miles can reach when he’s in the middle of trying to get something done. Further characters that enhance the universe as it grows are Miles’ clone-brother Mark, and the eventual wife of Miles, Ekaterin.

As for a polish to go with the series, I think you could have a whole collection based on this series. One for Cordelia, which I think should be either a rich forest green or an auburn color for her hair, with silver shard glitter. If you chose to make a polish for Mark, it would, I think, be sea-grey for his eyes with multiple shapes and sizes of black glitter for his "black gang". Ekaterin’s polish should be a soft loam brown, definitely, perhaps with hints of green for her gardens. Now if you wanted to do a single polish for Miles Vorkosigan you would have trouble, I think, because he has so many different roles that he plays, and nearly a different personality for each one. He doesn’t quite have multiple dissociated personalities, but his compartmentalization comes very close to it. One could do a brown and silver polish for his role as Lord Vorkosigan, the house colors, or blue and red for Lieutenant Vorkosigan in the Imperial Military, or grey and white for Admiral Naismith of the Dendarii…or black and grey (for his hair and eyes) with bright, gemstone sparkles of glitter for the contrast of his manic/depressive phases.

  16. I will confess that my favorite book of all time is Anne of Green Gables. I love Anne; she is so much like me that it's almost frightening. I have read the book every three or four months since I was twelve years old. The book series is wonderfully descriptive and makes the reader feel that she is right there with Anne, experiencing all the joys, fears, and sorrows of life. I'm on my third copy of the book and hope this one doesn't wear out any time soon.

I envision a polish made after Anne to be a fiery red glitter, just like her much-hated hair (until she dyed it green by mistake), in a pink base, with micro holo glitter to showcase her sparkling, beautiful spirit.

  17. Not my favorite book, but one I really enjoyed and just recently read, is Princess of the Midnight Ball, by Jessica Day George. It is a book based on the fairy tale The Twelve Dancing Princesses.

So Princess Rose and her eleven sisters are doomed to dance for King Under Stone, a king from a realm underground. They dance every third night and all night long, resulting in worn out slippers the next day. The princesses' father holds a challenge to any prince who can solve the mystery of the worn out slippers. Any prince who's tried, however, finds death instead. A soldier named Galen, who's just returned from the war, has fallen in love with Rose, and has decided to take it upon himself to solve the mystery.

I imagine a dusty rose polish (based on the main Princess Rose) with a LOT of glitter, and shimmer. Possibly even holo glitter. So that the rose polish looks like it's dancing in the light.

  18. Its silly but I still love books from Piers Anthony. They contained a lot of puns that I liked. :)
I am obsessed with holo's and have been looking for the perfect BROWN one... not too dark, not too light and not too redish. :)

  19. What a great giveaway. Thanks.

My absolutely favourite book of all time is 'You're Thinking About Donuts!' by Michael Rosen. Its a children's book but I just love it. A young boy goes to work with his Mum whilst she cleans the museum and everything comes to life. Stupid Ben Stiller film copying the story line. Yuk!

The polish I would choose would be a grey as in the colour of the stone giants and I'd cheat by stamping skulls for the skeleton he befriends.

  20. Hmmm...I think I'll go with The Great Gatsby. The color I'd choose would be something as close as Tiffany blue as possible (hey, going w/the opulence theme of The Great Gatsby, ha ha). I'd want it to be a crelly with a shimmer to it (similar to RBL's Aqua Lily shimmer effect). I'd also want some holo-goodness...perhaps a scattered holo. :)

  21. Awesome giveaway!

My favorite book is The Hobbit. I first read it in 5th grade, and have loved it since. I can't even count the amount of times I have read it, and yet I never get tired of it. It's the most detailed fantasy world, one you can easily slip in to and feel right at home in. I love the theme of no matter how small you think you are, you can still be a hero, that being big and strong is not always better than being smart or clever (a good theme for book nerds!). That no matter what you think of yourself, its not until you are put to the test that you really see what you are made of.

As for the polish, I have had a polish I have wanted to see made for a long time. It would be based off of Smaug (who I happen to have a tattoo of!) and his fire, but also kind of look like lava. Its really hard for me to explain, but it would have that deep orange glow of the fire/lava, with black and dark grey flecks for the smoke/ash.

  22. It's so difficult to choose a favorite book, but I would probably pick the classic The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It's a well known story, so I'm sure many are already aware of the thwarted love between a man and a woman (Gatsby and Daisy), but I prefer the less romantic side that features the social decay and the sheer depravity and opulence of the upper class. The "good" American values are traded in for greed and pleasure, and there is the clash between the old and new money.

As for a specific colour, there are so many possible options, and I hope Amy would consider using The Great Gatsby as inspiration for its own collection. WHat comes immediately to mind would be a duo of old money and new money holo-polishes (because you have to have some flashiness to symbolize money!). Old money would be a muted green- something between a sage green and olive green. It represents the money, but because those from old money have been accustomed to it, they are less flashy. New money would be a deep golden yellow, possibly with small holo glitters added in the mix. New money is flashier and ostentatious, and Gatsby's attempt to show Daisy he has worth.

  23. I don't think I could pick just one book. I love The Last Unicorn though. I'm not sure what colors I would pick. There are so many characters that polishes could be made for. I see a creamy jelly for the Unicorn.

  26. I'd say Pure, by Julianna Baggott, about a world post-nuclear fallout, centering on a girl with a doll head for a hand and a pure boy from inside the Dome that escaped the bomb as they look for the truth behind the nuclear explosions.

The color would be black-based (to represent the bleak outlook outside the dome), small grey glitter (to represent ash), with blue flakes (to represent the butterfly on the cover).

  27. My fave book is The First 30 Days To Serenity by Super Star.

This book chronicles the true story Super Star (yes that is his real name, it says so on his license) as he rises above the storm of destruction surrounding addiction and his remarkable journey into recovery. The polish would be a serene shade of blue and have silver star shaped glitter in it, of course!

  28. My favorite book by my favorite author is Wild Horses by Dick Francis.
A man returns to his childhood home as a successful film maker and he has to solve a mystery that happened years ago, but keeps echoing to the present.
Dick Francis' books always have something to do with horses (he was a jockey-to QE2?-before he took up writing) so maybe a brown jelly base with a gold shimmer and possibly other horsey color glitters, alternately, all the bright colors worn by jockeys in a green base.

  29. Some of my favorite books are the Harry Potter series. Something about them has always struck a chord with me, and I know a lot of other people felt the same way. I read the first book just before the popularity of it exploded, and I was 10 years old. All I could think was, where's my letter? :) For the next 10 years, it was a nice way to engross myself in an amazing magical world, and I was very sad after finished the last book.

I think it would be great to see a polish one of Harry's first friends, Hedwig. A white base with gray glitter and some sparse black pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My favourite book is Marina from Carlos Ruiz Zafón, a kind of tragic story with a cute and romantic side.
The polish should be called "The attic of the soul" (since that's a quote for the first lines of the book) and it should be a gray not shinning (like pastel) with small black circular glitter (one for each secret he hides).

    ReplyDelete
  31. My Favorite book is the most recent in the series by Kim Harrison called Ever After. Its an awesome Urban Fantasy series. Ever After is the alternate reality that demons live in. It is gritty, hazy and red-tinged. A polish called Ever After would be earthy brown with fiery flecks of red and orange. Awesome ♥ ShiKay

  32. I love all my books. So I will say what I am currently reading is David Sedaris When You Are Engulfed in Flames. The polish would be bright orange and holographic.

  33. Hi,
The science fiction classic "Dune" is my all time favorite, The story of a young man who finds himself and comes to power on an arid, sandy planet that hosts a giant worm like creature whose addictive "Spice" is coveted by many worlds.
This polish would be a sparkling sandy color with flecks of crimson spice scattered throughout.

  34. Oh my gosh. I put my full answer in the line on the giveaway. duh...

  35. One of my favorite books of all time is Neil Gaiman's American Gods, which is about a man named Shadow who, freshly released from prison, takes on a job as a bodyguard to a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday, who happens to be an old timey grifter. They travel across America recruiting people claiming to be gods in hopes of building an army of old, classical, gods to stand ground against against the new gods of things like technology and media. There are so many amazing characters in the book that it would be so hard to pick just one! I think Shadow could have an amazing dark purple polish with hints of glitter shreds, Mr. Wednesday could have a cool shaded metallic silver, or Mr. Nancy could have a fantastic creamy canary yellow with big chunks of glitter in it.

  36. One of my all-time favorite books is actually a short story by Stephen King, entitled "The Body" (which was made into the movie "Stand By Me"). Ultimately, it's about friendship, and how one moment can change your life forever. 4 boys - Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern - journeying through the backwoods to see if they can find a boy who had disappeared and died; their individual backstories and how these boys came together to form their friendships. I know it's long, but I'd like to share a quote from the book that has always impacted me:

"The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them - words shrink the things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure that your enemies would love to steal away. And you make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear."

And isn't that why we read books? Because they speak to that secret heart inside of us, and makes us feel not so alone.

I think a nail polish to correspond with this short story would reflect that the majority of the story takes place in the forest: dark green (for the deep forest) with lighter green (leaves) and tan (dusty roads), and perhaps splashes of light blue (for the sky). I'm not an expert in color, so I don't know how you'd put all those colors together. Perhaps a light blue creamy base with dark green large glitters, and small round glitters in light green & tan.

Even if I don't win, thank you for reminding me of a novella I truly love, and need to go read again.

  41. My favorite author is Terry Goodkind and I would have to pick Faith of the Fallen from his Sword of Truth novels. Although based in a world of fantasy, there are so many important life lessons we can learn from Goodkind's novels which reflect a lot of important historical events. This is especially true for Faith of the Fallen. In short, it's the story about a man who is forced away from his loved ones and taken to live far away in a world brainwashed similar to Communist or Socialist countries. Its a story about choosing life over death, and the importance of fighting for what you believe in. The main character, Richard, goes to the ugliest, death worshipping part of his world and he teaches them what it is to live. He shows them real beauty.

In this story, Richard carves a beautiful statue which shows the people the beauty that is life. I would love a polish which reflects this idea. I'm not sure if this is even doable, not knowing much about polish but I would love a white opalescent duochrome gold polish.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My favorite book is a Swedish book called: 100 aringen som klev ut genom fonstret och forsvann by an author called Jonas Jonasson.
It's an story about an old man that will turn 100 years and he just gets tired of all the attention and climbs out from the window of his room and disapears. The story then go back in time and tells of all his adventures he has been part of in his long life.

The polish would be a purple holo or a purple/green duochrome.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My favorite book is probably God Emperor of Dune, from Frank Herbert's Dune Chronicles. The whole series is great, but with this book you really get the sense of scale of the universe Herbert created, and the series starts to get really grand and psychedelic.

The polish I imagine would need to capture the vastness of the Atreides empire, combined with the importance of Spice to space travel. I envision a deep blue base with a copper shimmer throughout. If the polish could have a purple duochrome shift, that'd be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  44. My favorite book is probably Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. The whole book can transmit to us a lot of emotions and also teach us and make us take some time to think about our own relationships.

The polish I imagine would be something dark that reflects the mixed emotions Dorian Gray feels and shows how the beauty outside isn't always nice to a person.

  45. My favorite book is Fifty Shades of Grey. There are so many polishes I would love to have!!!

  46. My favorite book is The Little Prince. It was the first book that I read in English and my teacher at the time made us do very deep analyses of the reading.
As far as polishes... Something red and creme

  47. My favorite book series is and will probably always be The Legend of Drizzt series by R. A. Salvatore. It is a beautiful fantasy epic trekking across the Forgotten Realms. I could probably go on about the series in its entirety but the first three books involve following Dark Elf Drizzt Do'Urden as he grows up a male in a female-led Underdark. He grows to be the best and fastest fighter in his age group and lives his life looking for ways to free himself of the corruption in the Underdark. The books catalogue his journey as he breaks free from his home and lives a life of freedom, excitement, and discovery.

A polish based on the main character, Drizzt Do'Urden would be black with light purple and white glitter, signifying Drizzt's unusual lavender colored eyes (dark elves normally have red eyes) and his long white hair. It may also have blue glitter to signify one of his scimitars, Twinkle, which glows blue at the presence of danger. It may also have green glitter to signify the green cloak that Drizzt wears throughout his journey to protect him from the elements of the Surface world.

  48. My current favourite book is the one I am reading right now: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.
Purely because I love that it's set in the Victorian times when men were gentlemen who wore suspenders and women wore corsets with big puffy dresses. Also the bad men are these automaton robots that come to life with demon spirits, it's different.

A steampunk inspired glitter polish to represent the clockwork angel that the main character Tessa wears would be awesome so I'd go with something that's golden and has copper and gold holos through it to represent the metal and colour. Then there should be a white/silver shimmer to it to represent the angel so some fine pixie dust glitter.
It's got to shine no matter what colour you have under it just like a clockwork angel charm would always be noticeable if you wore it.

  49. Books has been an essential part of my life since I can remember so choosing just one was really hard for me. But of all the books I've read, there's a series of books that captured my heart from the moment I first started reading them. I'm an avid fan of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. It's beautifully written, smart, funny without trying to hard and captivating! You don't just read about the characters, you fall in love with them! From the despicable, cowardly , cocky wizards to the beautiful mixture of different creatures that forms the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. C'mon, who wouldn't love to live on a world thats basicly a flat disc balacing on the back of four elephants who's standing on the back of a gaint turtle!

My polish would be inspired by my favorite character from this series, a young witch from the Chalk called Tiffany Aching. Even from the first time you read about her (Wee Free Men), you know she is going places! Strong willed, stubborn, smart and curious, she is a force to be reckoned with.

“Yes! I'm me! I am careful and logical and I look up things I don't understand! When I hear people use the wrong words, I get edgy! I am good with cheese. I read books fast! I think! And I always have a piece of string! That's the kind of person I am!” -Tiffany Aching in Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett

My polish would be a light dusty blue base (Tiffany's dress) with big chunky black glequins or round glitter (representing her big clunky black boots) and small white or grey glitter (representing the Chalk and magic that's in her and that surrounds her).

Thank you for this great giveaway ladies!

  50. So, I don't have a favorite book. I find it very hard to play favorites when it comes to my paper lovelies. That being said, I would love a polish that's a bright peridot green with tons of holographic awesomeness. It's based on one of my favorite reference book, Exotica. It's a massive book about plants.

  51. One of my favorite books ever growing up was "Is Kissing A Girl Who Smokes Like Licking An Ashtray?" I fell in love with the title and I read the book several times. It's basically a high school love story and I always thought the title was an excellent question.
I would love a polish that is a forest green, because green is my favorite color, no blue undertones, with pink sparkles or glitter (preferably shimmer). I just feel like this is such a rare color combo to find in polish and I love the idea of these colors together.

  52. I cannot pick one book. I'm hopeless I know.

Two books that I loved growing up: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi and Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (strange child I know).

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle follows her as she travels across the ocean, first as a well respected lady and then later joins a mutinous crew. At first she likes the captain then realizes he is an evil man, the crew mutinies and she ends up joining the crew. When she arrives in America she cannot go back to the normal life she was living and runs away back to the sea. The polish would be based on the sea, a beautiful sea green, filled with flecks of white and a little red for the murders and lashings that happened.

I think I read Gone with the Wind like 20 times or so. I was pretty obsessed with it. I love the history and the story is so heartbreaking, but through it all she has Tara, the land, her families plantation to go back to and she draws her strength from that. So a polish I would love would be based on Tara, the land. I want it to be a vibrant grass green with white cottony bits.

I also loved Hemmingway later in high school and The Sun Also Rises was one of my favorite novels. Most of the story centers around the spring fiestas and bullfighting in Spain, as well as being a story of love and love lost. The polish would symbolize the fiesta and the bull fighting. I would want a polish that was an elegant noble red flecked with gold like a matadors cape.

More recently I've become obsessed with the Song of Ice and Fire series. I want a polish that is themed after the Stark sword 'Ice'. It is described as a Valyrian steel blade that has a dark and smokey appearance. So a very dark steel color with a little hint of smokiness to it.

    Okay I'm sorry I couldn't decide, but yeah. >.<

    I love these contests!
